1. Acceptance of these terms

By downloading, installing, purchasing, or using Aventurine ("the app"), or by using this website, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use Aventurine. Your privacy is covered separately in our Privacy Policy.

2. What Aventurine is

Aventurine is a local-first, offline desktop personal-finance application. It runs entirely on your own device, with no servers, no accounts, and no cloud sync. You are responsible for the device you run it on and for keeping your own backups of your data.

3. License to use the software

Source-available code

Aventurine's source code is publicly available under its source-available license. Your rights to use, modify, and distribute the source are governed by that license, which accompanies the source code and prevails over these terms with respect to the source itself.

Paid prebuilt application

The paid Windows build is provided under a perpetual license: a one-time purchase that grants you the right to download, install, and use the prebuilt application on devices you own, indefinitely, including future updates. The license is for your own use; you may not resell, redistribute, or sublicense the prebuilt application or your license, or remove or circumvent any licensing notices.

4. Purchases, pricing & refunds

• The Linux version is free. The prebuilt Windows application is sold for a one-time fee as shown at checkout.
• Payments are processed by Gumroad, which acts as the merchant of record and handles billing, tax, and payment-method details under its own terms.
• Prices may change over time, but a change does not affect a license you have already purchased.
• If you have a problem with a purchase, contact us and we'll work with you in good faith, consistent with the refund terms presented at checkout and applicable consumer-protection law.

5. Your data is yours

Aventurine stores your information in a local database file on your device. We do not host, receive, or have access to your financial data, and we cannot recover it for you. You are solely responsible for backing up your database file and for safeguarding any passphrase you use to encrypt it. If you lose an encryption passphrase, your data cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Aventurine or this website to:

• break any applicable law or infringe anyone's rights;
• attempt to disrupt, attack, or gain unauthorized access to the website or our purchase infrastructure; or
• misrepresent the software as your own original work in violation of its source-available license.

7. Not financial advice

Aventurine is a tool for organizing and visualizing your own financial information. It does not provide financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice, and nothing it displays should be relied on as such. Figures, predictions, and summaries the app generates are informational only. Verify anything important before acting on it, and consult a qualified professional where appropriate.

8. No warranty

Aventurine and this website are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that it will meet your requirements.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Aventurine and its creators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or financial outcomes, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the app or this website. To the extent any liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the software, if any. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

10. Third-party services

The website and purchase flow rely on third parties, including our web host, Gumroad (payments), and GitHub (source code and issue tracker). Your use of those services is also subject to their own terms and policies. We are not responsible for third-party services or their content.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Aventurine or this website after a change means you accept the updated terms.
